To honor the legacy of Roy Chapman Andrews, the following 20 internationally renowned explorers have received the Distinguished Explorer Award (DEA) from the Roy Chapman Andrews Society. These scientists have made outstanding discoveries that offer fresh insights into previously unknown or poorly known subjects or areas. Awards are based on both the scientific significance of the explorations and the use of innovative approaches during field work. As such, the DEA aligns with the Roy Chapman Andrews Society’s underlying mission to inspire scientific discovery. The award is presented with a commemorative bronze statue and cash prize.
